This type of prostatitis is treated with antibiotics for four to six weeks. If you are having recurrent episodes, then the treatment may last longer. Ibuprofen and Paracetamol ease the high fever and pain. The type of antibiotics completely depends on the bacteria causing your acute prostatitis. To relieve from symptoms, doctors may describe alpha-blockers to patients. Alpha blockers like doxazosin, tamsulosin and terazosin decreases urinary discomfort and relax bladder muscles.

Some other ways to lessen your discomfort

  • Avoid bicycling
  • Avoid spicy and acidic food, alcohol and caffeine
  • Sit on a soft pillow or doughnut cushion
  • Take warm water baths
