What is Acute Prostatitis?

Acute prostatitis iscaused by bacterial infection in theprostate gland causing a sudden inflammation. This common type of prostatitis is easily recognized due to the typical symptoms. However, sometimes an urgent patient’s hospitalization may be required.

What is the Treatment?

This type of prostatitis is treated with antibiotics for four to six weeks. Antibiotics, alpha blockers and pain killers are being prescribed to decrease discomfort and relax bladder muscles. Doctors often remind their patients to:

  • ·Avoid bicycling
  • Avoid spicy and acidic foods, alcohol and caffeine

  • Take warm water baths
